“Who are you?” Tye asked when he realized he was staring. “Where am I?” He pinched the bridge of his nose, wishing his throbbing headache would go away.

“You’re on Securenum. This is the capital Liberivit. You came through the portal. We brought you here.” She spoke like someone who was used to being obeyed. Her outfit looked similar to the man’s, though her pin had a tiny crown with a chain attached to it and it was placed on the lapel of her jacket. She didn’t wear a stock tie and her shirt was open at the collar.

“Where’s here?” The more he looked around the room, the more realized the furnishings appeared ornate, as if they were old like some of the historical sites he’d been to while studying in Europe. A feeling pricked at his skin, as if he could do things here that he’d never imagined. He thought of the lab. Would anyone miss him? His mother had seemingly disowned him some time ago; he had few friends at the barn and those he’d drifted away from after Blu’s passing. He didn’t know his father at all. No, he realized, no one would miss him.

“You don’t know do you?” She asked.

“Know what? I don’t even know what I’m not supposed to know.” He rubbed his eyes and tried to stand, but his head pounded even more, and so he remained sitting.

“You’ll get used to it. There are different magical energies here. I’m Leianne Bodendatter, by the way. This is Dios Erminson. He…works with me.”

There was more to it than that, Tye knew. He also knew better than to ask questions. “I was in my lab. There was a tornado and now I’m here,” he repeated. “I’m Tye Gethins.” He breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank god, I haven’t lost my memory or anything like that. I work for Equine Equality Genetics. I need to get back to the lab and make sure the samples were okay.”

“I’m not sure you can,” Leianne replied. “Our portals have been increasingly unstable. They have been disrupted by storms that affect their energies. That’s why you’re here. We need your help.”
