As I’m working to get my young adult fantasy equestrian academy series out (You can pre-order Gaits of Magic on my site or your favorite retailer.), and am thinking about my equestrian contemporary fiction series, and I write this blog sitting in my office surrounded by model horses (Breyers) of various sizes, shapes, and colors, I guess the answer is really simple. I love horses. They are one of my autistic special interests. I never grew out of the “horse crazy” phase. And I’m okay with that.

I mean sure, to some I’ve made horses my entire identity, writing about them, talking about them, and though I don’t wear much jewelry these days, I do have plenty of horse-related jewelry items as well. On this afternoon’s to do list is to make my weekly run to the feed store to purchase feed for the horses, and now that the weather is getting warmer, I’m watching them shed, thinking about how I need to enjoy the lovely weather we’re having and get out and groom them.

I suppose it’s the fact that everyone has something that they really enjoy. For some it’s football. Other people enjoy crafts like knitting or cooking. For me, it’s horses.

And I hope others enjoy them too. I want people to love the horses in my stories, see themselves in my stories just as much as I do. And maybe, just maybe, have a cozy getaway for a few hours.
