I’m trying to think about 2027 writing plans. I have my daily and monthly to do lists, and I list short stories or submission calls that I’d like to write stories for, but I admit I struggle to think too far in the future. Part of that is I’m still trying to deal with the after effects of years of severe burnout and exhaustion, with the occasional health problem to put me behind, but also because I’m still feeling my way back into writing, following my heart, and writing what makes my heart sing or my brain purr.
I’m starting to get a feel for what that mix looks like.
The fantasy comes first, of course. I absolutely adore this world I’ve created and have several partially finished books as well as current projects to write in, and I’m having a blast tying everything together. This includes the young adult work I write as Kit W Muse.
The equestrian is also into the mix. I know I haven’t written a lot of it this year, and there is a good reason for it, but it is on the list and I hope to get back to it.
A third genre, or maybe a return to a previous genre is entering the mix, and that is romance. Part of it is that I’ve been looking at sales numbers and my Racehorses and Romance series (written as Mary Kit Caelsto) still continues to sell even years after release. The other reason, and I’ve blogged about this before, is that I miss writing romance-centered fiction. A lot of my work has romantic elements, but I really did enjoy writing romance and writing equestrian-focused romance certainly fits in with my brand. I’m still trying to figure out how to do that including pen names and how to separate it from my other genres, but I think I can do this. I’ll probably be sharing more in the new year.
Mostly my goal in 2027 is to make forward progress and take care of myself. That’s a lofty goal on its own, and one that I am confident I can achieve.
