I actually started this post last Wednesday, before Breyerfest, which is an annual convention held by the Breyer Modeling Company (the main manufacturer for model horses) but I’ve been dealing with some health issues lately and didn’t get the post written, so here I am, hoping to finish it up today.

This year’s theme was MidSummer’s fair and featured horses from Scandinavian countries. Since I can’t go in person, I am thankful that Breyer offers virtual tickets to attend, which also gets a copy of the celebration horse (in this case a Fjord Pony named Corgi Hill Flinka), and I can watch the livestream which is a mix of pre-recorded segments talking about the guest horses and the event itself and a livestream of the events happening in the covered arena, which contains a lot of horse demonstrations from drill teams to barrel racing, trick riding, and dressage, among other equestrian pursuits.

I never could go to Breyerfest as a kid, and I remember reading the Just About Horses magazine and hearing about Breyerfest and thinking how wonderful it would be to attend. My guess is now, that I probably couldn’t attend with my disabilities and getting sensory overload, so the virtual attendance is perfect. There are also a lot of demonstrations and other content that is available on the website for the rest of the month, which is good because there really is too much to watch in one weekend.

I added more horses to my herd with two of the special runs and two unicorns that were on sale that I didn’t have yet. The truth is I needed the weekend to feed my horsey special interest. And while I worked while watching the livestream, especially since many of the segments were repeated numerous times, it was good to have a staycation and spend time with what I love — horses.
