It wasn’t that long ago that I thought about my writing as separate from the pet grief coaching work I do or the somatic Wild Spirit Storytelling work I do connecting with equine wisdom and wild wisdom. When you added on the author coaching, well it felt like four (or five?) separate businesses and seemed like I was doing too much.

And yet, while I’ve known since spring that I’d be starting animal chaplaincy training this fall (And indeed my second class is tonight. The training runs for nine months.), once I’ve actually started to dive into this work, honestly, it all makes sense and is completely connected.

I share the connection we have with animals and our wider world through my fiction and help people with their connections to animals through pet grief work and wild spirit somatic work. This appears with my fiction in the form of the magical equines and animal companions, as well as the contemporary equestrian work I write. I would like to believe that my love of animals and my connection with them shows through in my writing.

Though this may not seem like the sort of thing that one would blog about on an author blog, I find that it is fascinating to think about. It helps me to put my work in perspective and to tell people about it. I don’t do five separate things. I express my connection with animals and the human-animal bonds in many different ways.

I admit, I could just simply blame all of this on my AuDHD. And yet, as I practice radical self-acceptance for myself and the way my brain works, I find that changing how I think about my work and the connections I’ve made with it, make it easier to do so.

Just a writer-ly thought for today, and now I have a short story to finish.
